Benji Marshall cleared to play for Dragons

The former Kiwis captain Benji Marshall makes his much-anticipated return to the NRL against Parramatta on Saturday, with the Wests Tigers and St George Illawarra agreeing on a compensation package.

Marshall quit the Tigers last year to take up a Super Rugby contract with the Blues, but quit the 15-man game after less than six months after failing to make an impact with the Auckland-based outfit.

As part of his release deal from the Tigers chief executive, Grant Mayer, inserted a clause of $200,000 to be paid to the club if Marshall signed for another NRL team before 2015.

Mayer and Dragons counterpart Peter Doust met this week to finalise a payment agreement and terms were finally agreed on Friday morning.

Marshall will now face the Eels at Parramatta Stadium after coach Steve Price and the Dragons' medical team were satisfied how he's come through a full week of training.
