Removing racist Sterling may not be easy despite latest gaffe

The NBA basketball commissioner Adam Silver says the league is pressing ahead with efforts to remove Donald Sterling as owner of the Los Angeles Clippers as quickly as possible.

Silver's statement comes after Sterling took to television to make an apology aimed at cooling the racism row he sparked, but only fuelled the fire when he took another swipe at NBA icon Magic Johnson.

Sterling apologised for the racist comments that resulted in his life ban from the NBA, but he also criticised Johnson as a poor role model because he contracted HIV and made other attacks on his character.

Sterling's latest comments drew the wrath of Silver who apologised to Johnson and reiterated the league's desire to remove Sterling as soon as possible.
