Football Ferns beaten by Japan

The New Zealand women's football team has been beaten 2-1 by Japan in Osaka.

Down 1-nil at half time, Kirsty Yallop drew the visitors level just after the hour mark with a strike from the edge of the box.

However Japan grabbed the winner in the 86th minute to deny the New Zealanders a chance of a first ever victory the world number three side.

Coach Tony Readings says the first half showed that they hadn't been together for a while and they found it hard to keep possession.

He says they wouldn't have been happy to draw after the second half performance so we're certainly disappointed to lose the game.
