A blend of youth and experience is the feature of the New Zealand women's hockey team named to compete at the World Cup in the Netherlands next month.
The 18 strong team contains three players with more than 200 test caps and four with more than 100, alongside four 19-year-olds.
Captain Kayla Whitelock leads the side with several other experienced players including Emily Naylor, Krystal Forgesson, Gemma Flynn and Anita Punt.
Hager says the squad is very versatile with players who can play various positions, so if injuries arise they can be covered easily.
The World Cup team is also bolstered by the inclusion of striker Katie Glynn and midfielder-defender Stacey Michelsen, who both missed much of the past year with serious knee injuries.
The Black Stick women's opening game of the tournament is against Belgium on Saturday May 31st.
