The Manawatu cyclist and double Olympic medallist Jesse Sergent has finished third in the final stage time trial at the Tour de Romandie in Switzerland.

The New Zealander was in excellent company, finishing closely behind overall winner Chris Froome (Team Sky), the Tour de France champion, and German Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-Quickstep), who is the current world time trial champion.

Froome won in 24:51 with Martin one second behind and Sergent eight seconds back in third.

Sergent is expected to be available for selection for July's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with the road team to be announced later this month.
