The Highlanders hooker Brayden Mitchell has been cited for alleged foul play during his team's 29-28 Super Rugby loss to the Stormers in Cape town on Sunday morning.

Mitchell is alleged to have contravened the Lifting Tackle law when he tackled Stormers player Jaco Taute in the 66th minute of the match.

The referee Craig Joubert reviewed the incident with the television match official during the game and issued Mitchell a yellow card.

Upon further review of the match footage, the Citing Commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the red card threshold for foul play

The citing will next be considered by SANZAR Duty Judicial Officer Adam Casselden.

For the matter to be dispensed with at that hearing, Mitchell must plead guilty and accept the penalty offered by Casselden.
