The NBA commissioner Adam Silver says he'll do everything within his power to force the Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling to sell the team.
Silver banned the 80-year-old billionaire for life and fined him the NBA maximum $NZ 3 million for making racist remarks that sparked widespread outrage in the United States and around the world.
Silver says he's asked the other 29 NBA team owners, known as the board of governors, to force Sterling to sell the Clippers.
Silver says he fully expects to get the support he needs from the other NBA owners to remove Sterling.
Three-quarters of the Board of Governors will have to vote in favour of the motion to force the sale of the team.
