New Zealand drivers Jason Richards and Greg Murphy were prominent again in the Bathhurst 1000 at Mt Panorama where Garth Tander and Will Davison won for the Holden Racing Team, ending the three year winning streak of of Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup.
Last year Richards and Murphy combined to finish on the podium but yesterday Richards finished
second , 0.7 of a second back, and Murphy was fourth in the hard luck story of the race.
Tander held out Richards in the closing stages of the race after heavy rain made conditions treacherous while Murphy proved his combination with Mark Skaife was formidable.
They appeared to have the best chance of anyone before a safety car intervention with 20 laps to go killed their near perfect strategy and they missed a crucial pit stop by five seconds when the safety car was called.
Murphy says he's never seen a race like it and it's the best fourth place he's ever had.
Of the other New Zealanders Shane Van Gisbergen with Alex Davison were 13th,Daniel Gaunt and John McIntyre 19th and Craig Baird with Paul Dumbrell 21st.
