The All Whites captain is looking for a full on effort right from the first whistle in Sunday morning's away leg football World Cup qualifier against Bahrain.
Ryan Nelsen says in previous games it has taken up to 25 minutes for the side to play like they believe they deserve to be on the field.
He says it's vital that All Whites quickly adjust to the pace of this game, which this experienced side should be able to do.
The coach Ricki Herbert is confident neither the stadium nor the home crowd will give the team problems.
Herbert is expecting a familiar type of pitch to play on, and is also not too concerned about the side having to deal with an overly-passionate crowd.
He says a large and vocal home crowd can ignite a strong effort from a visiting New Zealand side.
And Ricki Herbert says they're not going to let the heat expected inside Manama stadium play on their minds.
The temperature during the match is expected to be around 30 degrees.
Herbert says there's nothing they can do except make sure the players remain hydrated, and he's pleased that at least humidity won't be a factor.
