Phoenix lose veteran duo

The All White Leo Bertos and the former Belgium international Stein Huysegems are both leaving the Wellington Phoenix.

The 32 year old Bertos joined the Phoenix in 2008 and played 127 matches for the club.

Huysegems had been with the club since 2012 and was its leading scorer this season with 10 goals.

Coach Ernie Merrick called Bertos a New Zealand footballing legend and a great character who mentored the club's young players.

Despite having a season blighted by injury, Merrick says he's sure Bertos will remain part of the All Whites' set up and he hopes to see him back at the Phoenix in some capacity.

Merrick says Huysegems is the most professional footballer he's worked with and he's sad to see him go.

Earlier this season it was reported the 31 year old wanted a new two year contract with the Phoenix but was only offered an extension for one season.

The Phoenix finished the 2013-14 season second to last after losing their final game to the Melbourne Victory 4-1.
