Black Sticks women too good for China

10:50 am on 1 April 2014

The New Zealand women's hockey team have come from behind to beat China 3-2 in the first match of the two-test series at the Taupo Hockey Centre.

Down 2-1 at half-time, the Black Sticks played a strong second half with two goals from Sophie Cocks and Jordan Grant sealing the result for New Zealand.

Head coach Mark Hager says the final result was pleasing but that there was still plenty to work on going into game two tonight.

He says the Black Sticks' first half performance was poor and concedes their basic skills weren't where they needed them to be.

Game two gets underway at 6pm.
