Australia launches new domestic rugby comp.

7:10 pm on 24 March 2014

Nine teams will contest Australia's new domestic rugby competition over 11 weeks starting in August.

The Australian Rugby Union received 11 tenders, but decided on a nine-team format; four from New South Wales, two from Queensland and one each from Victoria, Western Australia and the Australian Capital Territory

All of Australia's Super Rugby players will be required to play in competition, with a quota system to ensure an equal spread of talent between the elite and up-and-coming stars.

Wallabies players will be on international duty but each member of the Australian squad will be allocated across the nine teams and will be eligible to play if they become available.
