Groin injury puts Gill in doubt for Track and Field champs

A groin injury is threatening to derail shot putter Jacko Gill's much anticipated showdown with world indoor athletics bronze medallist Tom Walsh at the New Zealand Track and Field Championships in Wellington next weekend.

19-year-old Gill is struggling with the niggly injury and while still hopeful of going toe to toe with 22-year-old Walsh, the former junior world champion is in doubt to compete at Newtown Park.

If Gill does manage to recover in time it's unlikely he'll be at his peak with the groin injury curtailing his ability to train.

If he can't compete it will rob the event of it's most mouth-watering contest.
