Williamson and Guptill to open at T20 World Cup

10:43 am on 17 March 2014

Kane Williamson and Martin Guptill have all but been confirmed as the Black Caps openers for the Twenty20 cricket World Cup, which starts in Bangladesh next week.

The Black Caps play Pakistan in a practice game today and Australia on Wednesday.

Coach Mike Hesson says the conditions mean spinners are likely to play a big part in the tournament which has come into his thinking.

He says Williamson's ability to hit over the top early against spinners and the way he complaments Guptil sets up a potentially good partnership.

New Zealand's first World Cup match is against England on Sunday.
