The New Plymouth sit-skier Corey Peters has won the silver medal in the New Zealand team's final event of the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games.

Peters was second in the Giant Slalom event.

Peters was last to take to the course in his second and final run and with a medal on the line, the 31-year-old laid down another convincing run to finish 0.47 seconds off the leader to claim silver.

It's New Zealand's first and only medal of the Games, leaving the country 16th equal overall on the medal table.
