Elliott happy with Tomkins debut

The New Zealand Warriors face a tough week in training as they look to bounce back from Sunday's 36-16 thrashing by the Parramatta Eels in their opening National Rugby League fixture.

St George Illawarra are up next in the Warriors' first home fixture at Eden Park on Saturday, and the Dragons will no doubt again run their attacks out wide, after both Eels wingers scored hat-tricks in Sydney.

But coach Matt Elliott says he was happy with the NRL debut of his big-money signing Sam Tomkins.

Tomkins showed some encouraging signs, the fullback setting up two of his side's three tries, and Elliott says Tomkins will be better behind a pack going forward.

Elliott says Tomkins' game depends on the rest of the team doing their jobs, and he says the English import did fine.
