There's been a thrilling finish to the one day domestic cricket match between Wellington and Otago at the Basin Reserve.
The bottom-placed hosts set Otago a target of 309 and the Volts almost got there - needing 18 runs off the final over, the visitors finished with two sixes off the third-to-last and penultimate balls.
That left Otago needing three runs off the final ball - but instead they lost their final wicket with Sam Wells caught out for 50.
The Volts finished on 306 all out, in reply to Wellington's 308 for five. The victory sees the Firebirds climb a place up to fourth on the table after three rounds.
Northern Districts thrashed visitors Auckland by 110 runs in their clash in Hamilton, to record their first bonus point win and move from second-last to second on the Ford Trophy standings, just behind the top-of-the-table Aces.
Northern made 257 for five off their 50 overs before bowling Auckland out for 147 with just over seven overs remaining.
