The All Blacks captain Richie McCaw has undergone surgery this afternoon to insert a screw into his broken thumb.
McCaw suffered the injury in the Crusaders loss to the Blues last week and will be sidelined for up to two months.
The Crusaders say the operation has gone well but the screw will remain in permanently.
Meanwhile the ACT Brumbies will be without Wallabies flanker David Pocock for their Super rugby match against the Hurricanes in Wellington on Friday amid fears he could be out of the game for another lengthy period.
Pocock reinjured his left knee in the Brumbies' win over the Western Force in Perth at the weekend.
It's the knee he had recontruction surgery on early last year after rupturing ligaments.
He's consulting a surgeon in Brisbane and will undergo further scans.
