Sri Lanka wins opening Asian Cup match

The Sri Lankan cricketers have won the opening match of the Asian Cup, beating Pakistan by 12 runs in Fatullah, Bangladesh.

Lahiru Thirimanne scored a century as Sri Lanka made 296 for 6 after electing to bat first, and then bowled out Pakistan for 284 in the second last over of the day-night match.

India play hosts Bangladesh at the same venue tonight.

Afghanistan are the fifth team in the tournament.
