White Ferns thump West Indies

A captain's knock of 95 from Suzie Bates has guided the New Zealand women's cricket team to a 9 wicket victory over the West Indies in the first one-day international at Lincoln.

Bates scored 95 off 91 balls as the White Ferns chased down their target of 182 with 20 overs to spare.

Sara McGlashan was 60 not out.

Earlier Bates took 2 wickets as the tourists scored 181 for 8 off their 50 overs after deciding to bat first.

The second of three ODI's is in Lincoln on Monday.
