Softball New Zealand has confirmed that a number of Black Sox players failed a drugs test during a training camp in December.

They say it was an internal drugs test and wasn't undertaken by Drug Free Sport New Zealand.

A statement says the test indicated a very small number of team members returned positive urine samples for a recreational drug.

Softball New Zealand's no tolerance policy was reiterated to the players and expectations have been set to ensure no further incidents of this nature occur in the future.

The statement didn't say if any further action has been taken.
