Good day for Dutch in Sochi

12:28 pm on 11 February 2014

It's been a day of celebration for Dutch athletes on ice at the Sochi Winter OIympics.

Dutch men continued their domination of the speed skating events with a clean sweep in the 500 metres, Michel Mulder winning the gold by one-hundredth of a second from Jan Smeekens, and the winner's twin brother Ronald Mulder took the bronze.

The Netherlands have won seven of the nine speed skating medals decided.

Women ski jumpers will make history tonight, competing for the first time in a Winter Games after more than a decade of humiliation and fighting for the right to compete.
