Ryder hits tonne amidst controversy

11:49 am on 10 February 2014

Jesse Ryder has hit a century for the Otago Volts on day three of their Plunket Shield clash with the Central Stags at Saxton Oval in Nelson.

The Volts declared on 271 for three as Ryder brought up three figures giving the Stags a first innings lead of 36.

Central went to lunch on 67 for one in their second innings.

Ryder's milestone comes after New Zealand Cricket confirmed the cavalier batsman is being investigated for drinking on the eve of the first Test against India.

The 29-year-old was bracketed to play in that game if Ross Taylor wasn't available due to the approaching birth of his second child.

New Zealand Cricket has sanctioned Ryder in the past for consuming alcohol in breach of team protocol.

Ryder's long-term manager Aaron Klee has not confirmed reports that he's separated from the cricketing prodigy.
