First NZers compete at Sochi

1:00 pm on 7 February 2014

Four New Zealand snowboarders have competed in the opening event at the Sochi Winter Olympics.

Christy Prior, Shelly Gotlieb, Stefi Luxton and Rebecca Torr were among 24 womenn competing in the slopestyle event, where riders are awarded points as they descend a course made up of a series of rail features and three large jumps.

None of them managed to finish in the top four of their respective heats, which would've ensured they advanced straight to the finals and must now contest the semi-finals on Sunday.
