Ponting quits Twenty20 Internationals

Australian's captain Ricky Ponting has stepped down from Twenty20 Internationals, saying the decision will help keep him fresh for Test cricket and one-day internationals.

Ponting, who's 34, will hand over the Twenty20 leadership to Michael Clarke, who remains his deputy at Test and one-day level.

He says the decision is all to do with his longevity in the game and will mean over the next 12 months he will gain an extra four weeks off by opting out of Twenty20 internationals.

Clarke, 28, is expected to lead Australia in the World T20 in the West Indies in May next year.
