Colombia revived their hopes of a first World Cup appearance since 1998 by scoring twice in the last 10 minutes to beat neighbours Ecuador 2-0.
Ecuador played most of the second half with 10 men after striker Pablo Palacios, was sent off for diving in the 48th minute.
The win lifts Colombia above Ecuador on goal difference with three games each to play in the 10-team South American qualifying group. Both teams have 20 points.
Colombia also overtook Uruguay, who lost 1-0 in Peru.
Ecuador, attempting to qualify for their third successive World Cup, had little trouble in keeping Colombia at bay until Palacios, who came on as a 22nd minute substitute, was sent off.
