The Argentinian tennis player Juan Martin del Potro will play Russia's Dmitry Tursunov in the Sydney International semi-finals on Thursday.
Del Potro, who won the 2009 US Open, has worked his way back to world number 5 after an injury stretch in 2010, and beat the Czech Radek Stepanek 6-4 3-6 6-3.
Tursunov enjoyed a 7-6 6-2 win over Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin.
The other two quarter-finals are still to be played, with defending champion, Bernard Tomic, takes on Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov, and Australia's Marinko Matosevic plays qualifier Sergiy Stakhovsky.
