Cook won't quit England captaincy

Alastair Cook wants to continue as English cricket captain beyond the current Ashes series, but acknowledges others will decide his fate.

England have slumped to the lowest point of this tour when Australia won the Boxing Day Test by eight wickets to take a 4-0 series lead.

Another win in Sydney next week would give the home side a rare Ashes whitewash.

Cook says as captain of the team he takes total responsibility, but he admits being stripped of the captaincy would hurt and he has no plans of giving it up.

He brushed aside allegations his players were not up to test cricket standard or past it and defended England's coaching staff, noting it was the same personnel who helped the team win in India and beat Australia 3-0 earlier this year.
