WADA would be surprised if organised crime not involved in NZ sport

The World Anti Doping Agency has expressed surprise at a government investigation suggesting there's no organised crime involvement in New Zealand sport.

The investigation findings were released last week.

It was undertaken following an investigation by the Australian Crime Commission earlier this year that linked professional sport, drugs and organised crime in that country.

The New Zealand report found no evidence of systemic use of performance enhancing drugs or the involvement of organised crime here.

But WADA director general David Howman, a New Zealander, says match fixing is widespread and while a copy of the full report hasn't been made available to him, he has his concerns.
