The former international cricketer Jesse Ryder has been named in a New Zealand XI to play the West Indies in their tour opener at Lincoln at the end of the month.
Ryder is attempting to return to the top level of the game after being assualted earlier this year and then being banned for failing a drugs test.
He last played for New Zealand in February 2012.
The NZ XI contains seven Black Caps and will be captained by Brendon McCullum.
National selection manager Bruce Edgar says it's important that Ryder is back playing at this level, and it's another opportunity for him to show that he can perform consistently.
The three-day match is the only game before the first test in Dunedin.
