Scots have mixed feelings after Japan win

Scotland's beaten Japan 42-17 in Edinburgh but suffered some collateral damage ahead of bigger tests at Murrayfield against South Africa and Australia.

With fullback Stuart Hogg and wing Tim Visser already on the injured list, prop Ryan Grant suffered an early knock on the head and centre Matt Scott departed with an injured wrist.

Interim Scotland head coach Scott Johnson admits he's struggling to evaluate the win over Japan - the big scoreline advantage came only after Japan had twice reduced the deficit to a single point with tries by winger Kenki Fukuoka in the second quarter of the second half.

Scotland scored six tries in all, four coming in the final 25 minutes as Johnson's side pulled comfortably clear.

Johnson says the negative is the tries Japan scored, but the bright side is every time they scored his team walked back and scored another one straight back.
