7:22 am on 30 October 2013

The New Zealand cricketers have lost the opening one dayer against Bangladesh in Dhaka by 43 runs under the Duckworth Lewis system.

After being put into bat by Black Caps captain Brendon McCullum Bangladesh made 265, with Auckland pace bowler James Neesham taking four wickets and Tim Southee, on his return from injury, three.

Mushfiqur Rahim top scored with 90 for the home side.

Rain reduced New Zealand's target to 206 off 33 overs but a middle order collapse when Corey Anderson, Brendon McCullum and Neesham were part of a hatrick by pace bowler Rubel Hossain reduced the Black Caps to 121 for six.

They were all out for 162.

Hossain finished with match figures of six for 26, while Grant Elliot top scored for New Zealand with 71.

Kane Williamson was unable to bat for the Black Caps after injuring his wrist while fielding.

Game two in the three match series is tomorrow.
