The Breakers have lost their third game in a row for the first time in more than three years, going down to the Perth Wildcats 96-89 in Auckland.
The loss takes the three-time defending champions' record to 1-3 to start the season.
After taking a nine point lead into the second quarter, the Breakers were forced to deal with foul trouble for Tom Abercrombie and Mika Vukona.
Eventually they were outclassed by the Wildcats' new import and Miami Heat recruit, James Ennis, who led all scorers with 29 points.
Perth led by five going into the final stanza and while the Breakers tried to claw their way back into the game, poor free throw shooting let them down and they were forced to settle for their first loss at home in 16 games.
The Breakers import point guard, Kerron Johnson, led the side with 17 points, while Alex Pledger was also prominent with 16.
