7:08 pm on 27 July 2009

The Auckland rally driver Mark Tapper will compete in this weekend's Rally of Finland, following medical clearance after breaking his wrist at home in June.

He'll drive a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 10, prepared Ralliart Italia, with Christchurch-based co-driver Jeff Judd .

It's Tapper's fourth event in the Pirelli Star Driver programme, which part of the FIA driver scholarship.

He says discomfort from the the injury and loss of fitness while recovering means he's not going to be As competitive as the other Pirelli Star Drivers.

They're all contesting the same designated rounds of the World Rally Championship in the Production category as Tapper who says he just want to do the rally and keep doing the mileage.

Tapper and Judd will contest Rally Australia in September before the final Pirelli Star events in Spain and Britain in October.
