Kipsang smashes world record

The Kenyan marathon runner Wilson Kipsang took advantage of the flat and fast streets of Berlin to smash the marathon world record by 15 seconds.

The 31-year-old Kipsang clocked two hours, three minutes and 23 seconds to better the previous mark set two years ago in the same race by his compatriot Patrick Makau, who was forced to pull out of the Berlin race because of injury.

Kipsang won last year's London Marathon and a bronze medal at the Olympics.
