There are predictions almost every world record could fall as the swim suit saga replaces doping as the shadow hanging over the world swimming champs which in Rome this weekend.
Australian head coach Alan Thompson fears the titles will be ruined as every record is tainted by artificial assistance just as the 1994 world titles in Rome were plagued by performances-enhancing drugs speculation.
Some suits are suspected or creating what's known as "air trapping" which enhances a swimmer's speed.
The Australian team is sponsored by Speedo and although Thompson initially hoped the majority would stick with the LZR suit, he concedes most are opting for the newer polyurethane suits.
