Knights eliminate Melbourne in upset

The unheralded Newcastle Knights have caused an upset in the National Rugby League knocking defending champions Melbourne out of the competition.

The Knights hadn't won in Melbourne since 2004 and narrowly pipped the Storm 18-16 in Saturday night's semi-final.

Newcastle forward Willy Mason says the young players in his team inspired the victory.

Mason says the youngsters weren't fazed by the pressure of semi finals football and threw caution to the wind.

He says their attitude inspired the older heads in the squad who're simply enjoying playing football despite the fact their style lacks structure.

Newcastle go on to play the Sydney Roosters next week for a place in the grand final.
