Oracle calls for increased wind limits

2:43 pm on 20 September 2013

Oracle Team USA has challenged Team New Zealand to agree to an increase in the racing wind limits for the America's Cup after yet another race on San Francisco Bay was postponed due to high winds.

Defenders Oracle comfortably won the opening race of the day to get within six points of Team New Zealand, who leads eight points to two in the first to nine series.

Racing was called off just a minute before race two was due to start this morning when the wind limit was exceeded.

The wind rules were agreed by the teams prior to the regatta, but Oracle skipper Jimmy Spithill says his team has written to Team New Zealand seeking an agreement to raise the limit and if not to at least continue a race once it's started rather than having it called off part way through.
