The New Zealand Breakers are about to embark on a busy pre-season schedule in preparation for the upcoming Australian National Basketball league campaign, with an injury concern hanging over centre Alex Pledger.
The Breakers will meet the Melbourne Tigers in Christchurch and Wellington this week, the second match of which will also see points earned count towards the official NBL Pre-season Blitz tournament set for Sydney next week.
The Coach Dean Vickerman says they have already made some adjustments to cover Pledger, who's picked up an ankle injury, resulting in a late call up for 7 foot tall 17-year-old development player Jack Salt from Westlake Boys High.
Pledger is unlikely to play game one and is a chance only to play in Wellington.
Jeremiah Trueman won't play in Christchurch either after recently becoming a father again and Vickerman says
players will get opportunities to trial in different positions.
The games on Tuesday and Thursday will also be the first chance for fans to see new imports Darnell Lazare and Kerron Johnson.
Vickerman says he's pleased with what he has seen in practice so far from the two Americans.
