Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic beaten

3:20 pm on 7 July 2009

The Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic have finished second in the trans-Tasman netball standings after losing their final round match 54-35 to the Thunderbirds in Adelaide.

The Magic failed to get anything going during the match with the Thunderbirds defence outstanding right through the court.

The home side led by two at quarter-time, 13 at half-time and 16 at three-quarter time.

Magic coach Noeline Taurua says her side didn't turn up to play today.

It was just the second loss of the season for the Magic, who put up 17 less shots than their opponents with Irene van Dyk shooting at just 76 percent.

The loss means the Melbourne Vixens finish top of the standings and will host the Magic in the major semi-final next weekend.

The Thunderbirds finish third and will host either the Southern Steel or the Queensland Firebirds in the minor semi-final.

The Steel are currently fourth, but if the Firebirds score a big win over the West Coast Fever in Perth tonight, they will grab the last play-off spot.
