Oracle deducted two points for America's Cup

11:00 am on 4 September 2013

The America's Cup holders Oracle have been docked points for the finals regatta against Team New Zealand which starts on San Francisco Bay on Sunday.

It was found that Oracle used illegal boats in the leadup America's Cup World Series last year and an America's Cup jury has today handed down their sentence.

Oracle will start their defence on minus 2 points which is 2 wins and would need to win 11 races before Team New Zealand wins 9.

4 members of the Oracle team, 1 sailor and 3 shore crew have been suspended from the America's Cup.

A points deduction has never happened in an America's Cup final before.
