Taranaki says a deal with Chiefs not signed and sealed

The Taranaki Rugby Union says it's still awaiting a decision on whether it will be part of the Chiefs Super Rugby franchise from next year.

Taranaki, which is currently part of the Hurricanes region, has publicly declared it's made a bid for a share of the licence to run the Hamilton based franchise and hopes to host two games a year in New Plymouth.

New Plymouth's Yarrow Stadium has only hosted one Hurricanes match in the past four years.

A spokeswoman for the Taranaki rugby union says reports that a deal has been signed and sealed are incorrect.
