Kayakers start world championships tonight

The New Zealand canoe sprint team starts their world championship campaign in Germany tonight.

World and Olympic 200 metre champion Lisa Carrington will race in the heats of the longer K1 500 event in Duisburg, while Ben Fouhy is in the K1 1000 and Teneale Hatton and Rachael Dodwell are in the K2 500.

Carrington's specialist event is over the weekend.

New Zealand also has a men's K4 1000 team taking part.

Scott Martlew has qualified for the final of the K1 200 Paracanoe event.
