Manly cop fine for Toovey rant

5:56 am on 20 August 2013

Manly has been slapped with a 10-thousand dollar fine for coach Geoff Toovey's post-match blow up on Friday night, deemed by the National Rugby League as excessive criticism of the referees.

Toovey unleashed a spray towards the game's officials at the media conference after the Sea Eagles were over-run by South Sydney in Gosford.

The NRL's head of football, Todd Greenberg, says Toovey crossed the line with his emotional reaction.

He says emotion has its place in the game, but is not an excuse for verbal attacks on match officials.

Manly have five days to appeal the decision.
