Yelena Isinbayeva, the greatest women's pole vaulter of all time, has provided the outstanding highlight for home fans on day four of the world athletics championships in Moscow.
Isinbayeva came through a thrilling contest to claim the gold medal against stiff competition in front of a partisan home crowd with the third, and probably last, world title of her illustrious career.
The 31-year-old Russian star, a dual Olympic champion and world outdoor record holder, was the first woman to clear five metres, and she won the world title as the only athlete to clear 4.89 metres.
Isinbayeva said before the championships this would be her last event before retiring.
Another field events highlight was Robert Harting's discus gold medal, giving the German his third straight world championship title.
On the track, the men's 400 metres was won easily by the American Lashawn Merritt, and Mohamad Aman becamse the first Ethiopian to win the 800 metres title.
The world record holder for the event, David Rudisha, missed the championships because of injury.
