Hanson says door not shut on Weepu and Vito

The All Blacks coach Steve Hanson says dropping veteran halfback Piri Weepu and loose forward Victor Vito was probably the hardest decision he had to make in selecting the squad for this year's Rugby Championship.

Other players to miss out are prop Ben Afeaki and loose forward Matt Todd.

The Hurricanes halfback TJ Perenara is the only new All Black in the 28 man squad named today.

Hansen says Weepu and Vito have contributed hugely to the All Black legacy, and says the door's not shut on them.

Steven Hanson says Weepu, who first appeared for the All Blacks in 2004, needs to work on his speed and fitness.

He says Vito is one of the best athletes they've got and if he can rediscover the freedom and intensity he's played with in the past, he should make a return.
