Dragons pull off upset of season

St George Illawarra produced the upset of the NRL season last night with a try in extra time to cap a miraculous 22-18 win over the competition leaders South Sydney at ANZ Stadium.

Trailing 18-6 10 minutes from fulltime, the Dragons scored two tries to set up a grandstand finish which involved a rash of unsuccessful field goal attempts after the regulation 80 minutes before test winger Brett Morris crossed to spark delirious celebrations.

The Dragons were second to last on the ladder before last night's game, and they hadn't scored a try for 154 minutes before Brett Morris scored his first of the night midway through the second half.

It was an ominous start to life without Greg Inglis for the Rabbitohs, who looked a shadow of the team which has dominated the season to date without their star fullback, who may not return until just before the finals due to a knee injury.

Souths remain two points clear of the Sydney Roosters at the top of the table.
