The New Zealand Rugby Union says it will be discussing with ousted Wallabies coach Robbie Deans what plans he may have for his coaching future.

Deans, who was the first non-Australian to coach the side, left the role earlier this week in the wake of the series loss to the British and Irish Lions.

He'd been in the role for five and a half years.

The NZRU chief executive Steve Tew says they are in regular contact with New Zealand coaches overseas will give Deans some space before approaching him.

Meanwhile the NZRU has confirmed the All Blacks will play their first official test in Japan, when they play the Brave Blossoms in Tokyo on November 2nd.
