McCaw backs global rugby season

The All Blacks captain, Richie McCaw, has thrown his support behind the International Rugby Players' Association's proposal for an integrated global season.

The proposed changes would see the controversial June test match window pushed back to July, ending the break in the Super Rugby schedule and starting European club competitions a month later.

It's designed to give players adequate breaks and allow a longer pre-season heading into Super Rugby.

McCaw says the idea could be a game-changer for professional rugby and wants the season structure debate to be addressed for the good of the game and its players.

The Players' Association's calling for the IRB and world rugby's major competitions to come together to make the proposal a reality from 2016.
