The British and Irish Lions have moved on after the Wallabies captain James Horwill was cleared of a stamping charge for the second time in a fortnight.
Horwill was originally found not guilty by the judicial offer Nigel Hampton of stamping on the head of the Lions lock Alun Wyn Jones in the first test in Brisbane, but in a rare move the International Rugby Board appealed against the decision.
The Canada-based appeals officer Graeme Mew said the IRB had been right to appeal the original not guilty decision, in their role as promoters of player welfare, and protectors of the image of the game.
But the appeal would have been upheld only if the IRB had established a clear mistake on Hampton's part.
The Lions' tour manager Andy Irvine said the Horwill incident didn't look very clever and it wasn't anywhere near the ball, but the tourists had accepted the initial verdict and moved on.
